BIOS-SCOPE is a five year, multi-institutional research program for the study of microbial oceanography in the North Atlantic Ocean, with fieldwork centered near the Bermuda Atlantic Time-series Study (BATS) site. Established in 2015, the underlying objective of this project is to cultivate cross-disciplinary collaborations that utilize a broad suite of scientific approaches, integrating genomic data with field measurements to evaluate marine microbial communities and their influence on biogeochemical cycles in the ocean.

Within the scope of this program, the Carlson Lab at UCSB is focused on microbial processing and response to dissolved organic matter variability.

My research interests are shaped by an interdisciplinary blend of marine microbial ecology, microbiology and ocean biogeochemistry.
