Biography

Arie is a spatial ecologist and oceanographer who completed her PhD at Dalhousie University on the east coast of Canada. She joined the Caselle lab in 2024.

Research Area

Arie constructs spatial predictive models of kelp forest density using environmental and biotic drivers to better understand how kelp forest distribution will change over time with the aim of advising how to best allocate restoration resources to preserve kelp forest habitat in California. She is broadly interested in coastal ecosystems and applied science for conservation and restoration. Arie is particularly interested in better understanding the complex biophysical interactions in shallow subtidal marine environments that shape metapopulation structure, persistence, and resilience, particularly under changing ocean conditions.
